Meet Sunset Labs, a new Victoria-based music and arts collaborative born out of entrepreneurship, love of craft, a strong desire to share and sheer willpower. Help celebrate the birth of this new creative endeavour with a launch party 9 p.m. Saturday, May 28 at Glo Restaurant (2940 Jutland), where Sunset Labs will unveil its new website, the artists and musicians of the collective and their new compilation album, Digital Chemistry.

The launch promises to bring a cross-section of Sunset Labs artists into Glo for the evening, which will showcase the collective’s electronic musicians and live-performance artists. The event will also feature fire spinning by Primal Fire, bodypainting by Urbanheart and a professional live stream to the Internet. The website, filled with content created by Sunset Labs’ many collaborators, will be introduced at the event during a special presentation by Sunset Labs founder, Jason Guille.

Local electronic musicians and DJs in the Sunset Labs performance roster include AFK, Beatfarmer, Braeden, Christoph, Desunos, Dust, Florian, Cityof9s, Fractal, Gano, Joshua, Lyssa, Marlee, Natron, Rowan, Stefan Alan, Vespers, and Toby Emerson. Collectively, these talented local artists have run 3 record labels and created an astounding 368 original tracks and remixes. Sunset Labs also lays claim to creating over 289 hours of original recorded DJ mixes — the equivalent of 12 days of non-stop electronic and dance music.

Artists in the Sunset Labs team roster include Kristin Grant (mixed media) and Aaron Geeraert (digital art), who will be joined by Katherine Harding, Jaz Lebel-Carruthers, Amelia Hutchison, Marie Specht, and Adrionna Bloomquist. This diverse group of artists work in a wide range of mediums, including canvas, sculpture, bodypainting, collage and light art. You can see them all in action when they perform on May 28 — along with a professional fire show by Victoria troupe Primal Fire.
